Double Injury Scare for PSG
Ligue 1 champion Paris Saint-Germain are sweating star men Neymar and Kylian Mbappe’s injuries ahead of some crucial fixtures of the season after the duo were forced off from their respective countries friendly match against Cameroon and Uruguay.
Mbappe was forced off after 30 minutes in France’s 1-0 victory over Uruguay after sustaining a shoulder injury at the Stade de France.
After the forward was sent through on goal, Uruguay goalkeeper Martin Campana rushed off his line to win the ball cleanly off the teenager’s feet.
Mbappe went down hard in the process and got up holding his shoulder, clearly in pain from the challenge.
Though the 19-year-old attempted to continue, he was quickly substituted for Marseille star Florian Thauvin. And Mbappe’s withdrawal came shortly after Neymar was taken off just minutes into Brazil’s friendly clash against Cameroon.
Neymar was captaining the Selecao at Stadium MK but pulled up with a groin problem while crossing the ball.
The French side are currently third in Group C with just two matches remaining, sitting one point behind both Liverpool and Napoli.
Things are considerably more comfortable for PSG in Ligue 1, where the defending champions have already opened up a 13-point lead over second-place Lille.
With 13 wins from their first 13 games, PSG have set a record for the longest winning streak at the start of the season in any of Europe’s top-five leagues.
Neymar and Mbappe have both been vital to their side this term with the duo both scoring 13 goals apiece in all competitions so far.
Before PSG face Liverpool next Wednesday, they have a league match against Toulouse on Saturday.
After winning the prize for Europe’s best player under 21 years of age last year, Mbappe helped France to the World Cup and PSG to a domestic treble in 2018.
