Saraki Denies Plans to Increase Senators Salaries

Senate president, has denied plans to increase senators salaries as reported by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project ().

SERAP had released a statement on accusing him of planning an increase in salaries of Nigerian senators to N15million.

Saraki’s disapproval of the statement came through his special assistant on media, , who described the allegation by SERAP as untrue.

He called on the body to be careful of what it publishes as it is a reputable organisation.

“Dear SERAP, there is no such ‘alleged decision’ to increase the allowances of Senators. “An organisation like yours needs to be more careful, especially when pushing out information meant for public consumption. Thank you,”

“To avoid any doubt: there is no plan to amend the allowances of Senators. The tweet by @SERAPNigeria is baseless and untrue. The public should disregard this ENTIRELY.”

SERAP had sent a message to the Senate president saying the alleged plan to increase the salaries of lawmakers was against the laws of the country.

“Dear Bukola Saraki, your alleged decision to increase monthly allowance per senator to N15 million is contrary to the salaries act.

“Nigerians ask you to suspend the allowances until our suit on the matter is determined. There isn’t one law for lawmakers and one for the rest of the people,” SERAP said.
