Nigerian Senate Probes Kwara Election
The Nigerian Senate has today began to probe the Nigerian Police over allegations of it’s interference in the just concluded Kwara bye- elections.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim during plenary had birthed the probe as he raised an order over the allegation that a police helicopter landed and offloaded some packages during the House of Representatives bye-election under the alleged order of the inspector general of police.
In reaction, the Senate mandated its committee on police and national intelligence to investigate the matter and report back to the Assembly.
According to Senator Ibrahim, many registered voters did not take part in voting due to alleged harassment by the Department of State Services (DSS).
“Less than 45% of registered voters showed up for the election because of the harassment and arrest going on. The DSS were protecting only members of the ruling party. Let us bring this to the motive of well meaning Nigerians and the International Community,” the lawmaker said.
