APC Denies Knowledge of Oshiomhole’s Grilling
Oshiomhole was reported to have been detained and interrogated by DSS operatives for nine hours owing to accusations by some APC governors who alleged that he received bribes during the party’s primary elections across the country.
Although nothing was established against him, the APC chairman was asked to resign during interrogation by the DSS, Cable news reported
According to Punch, Oshiomhole’s media aide, Mr Simon Ebegbulem, said, “The party (spokesman) has already responded, please check,” declining further comments.
Punch also reports that the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said, “We do not have any information on this rumour. More so, the chairman is not around in the country to confirm or deny this. As soon as we have any relevant information, you’ll be updated.”
Calls made to the spokesperson for the DSS, Mr Peter Afunanya, to speak on the issue did not go through.
A source close to the APC Chairman speaking on the position of anonymity said: “Oshiomhole denied allegations of corruption. He also said he was even surprised to be asked questions.
“He said he had briefed the President (Muhammadu Buhari) and that the party and its leadership were carried along in all the actions he and the National Working Committee took during the exercise.
“He demanded to see if there was any petition written against him or any member of his NWC; but he was not shown any due to the sensitivity of the investigation.”
