Update: Ekweremadu Reacts to Assassination Attempts
Reacting to attempt on his life, alongside his wife and son, deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu has said the country is no longer safe.
Gist 36 reported that there were attempts to assassinate Ekweremadu earlier today at his Abuja residence.
Ekweremadu, who condemned the security state of the country said he feared for his life.
According to the senator, h had placed calls to the police and other security agencies, adding that the calls placed to Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police failed.
“I called the IGP and other security agencies, their phones were switched off. The assailants left in a hurry and left some of their weapons. I fear for my life. This country is no longer safe.”
Showing concern for the incidence, Senate president, Bukola Saraki, condemned the attack, saying the police should carry out their duty of protecting lives properly.
“We thank the almighty God for granting you and your family safety from this horrific experience. It is now under investigation. The security situation in the FCT is quite unfortunate. “It is even more disturbing how poor the response by the Nigerian Police was. We hope that the police are not being partisan in the way they treat cases,” he said.
