University Students Drown in Kenya during Recreation
Two university students have reportedly drowned in Bondo, Kenya while taking selfies along River Yala.
The two students who were from Jaromogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) and Bondo Technical Training Institute drowned on Saturday, November 3, 2018.
Legit.ng reports the duo, Derrick Auka (third year at JOOUST) and Sharlet Atieno, had gone to the river for recreation before they met their tragic end.
Some sources have however said that Atieno was the first to drown and Derrick Auka dashed to the water to save her.
Also confirming the incident, Jaramogi University Vice Chancellor Stephen Agong stated that the two drowned while taking a selfie. He further said that the Bondo police had launched investigations as pertaining to the accident.
“Quite unfortunate indeed. The two students – one male from Jaramogi and the other a female from Bondo Technical, were taking a selfie at the river bank when the incident occurred,” he said.
