Boko Haram Killing Of Nigerian Soldiers Sparks Reaction From United Nations
The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has reacted to attacks and killings of Nigerian Soldiers by Boko Haram.
He made this known in a statement by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric,
The secretary general who extended solidarity to the Nigerian government, also sympathized with the families of the soldiers.
This condemnation is following reports of attacks by terrorists and other extremist groups in Nigeria, especially in Borno state and a major attack at a Nigerian military base in Metele, Borno, carried out by the extremists a week ago, in which scores of soldiers were killed.
The UN chief said several other bases were targeted, according to news reports.
“Those who violate international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law must be held accountable,” Guterres said.
Guterres highlighted that the national elections are due to be held in February next year, ensuring the organisation’s support.
“The United Nations stands in solidarity with the government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” the UN chief said.
