Ayodele Fayose Pleads Not Guilty To N30.8bn fraud charge
Former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has arrived the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos over alleged misappropriation of N30.8 billion.
Earlier, it reported that the EFCC would file an 11-count charge against Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, on Monday, October 22. The charges include receiving illegal monies to fund his 2014 governorship campaign in Ekiti state and benefitting from proceeds of money laundering. Fayose will be arraigned before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun on 11 counts bothering on financial fraud and embezzlement. An official of the commission had reportedly said that Fayose was served with charges in the evening of Friday, October 19.
The anti-graft agency conveyed the ex-governor to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, in a white bus manned by heavy security Monday morning.
The court is expected to sit at 9am.
Fayose was brought to court straight from the EFCC custody, where he had been detained since last week when he submitted himself to the anti-graft agency, shortly after the expiration of his immunity from prosecution. Fayose is being defended by a former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).
Agabi was also counseled for the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, when he was tried before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration.
