NNPC Debunks Rumor of Fuel Price Hike
The Nigerian National Petroleum Commission has wholly disagreed with rumors of it’s plan to hike fuel price.
Legit.ng reports that the group manager, group public affairs, Ndu Ughamadu released a statement on Tuesday October 30 in Abuja.
The statement affirmed that contrary to the misinformation in the social media, the Federal Government has no plan to review prices of white products either upwards or downwards.
The report also stated that since October 2017, NNPC has been the sole importer of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country as the Oil Marketing Companies could not import due to the Open Market Price being much higher than the N145/ litre official selling price, legit.ng reports.
The manager also highlighted the implications of such rumors on the cost of petrol as the year draws to an end. One of which is the hoarding of price of petrol and its related products subsequently leading to actual scarcity and long queues at fuel stations
He further encouraged Nigerians to report any sale of petrol above the regulated 145 naira per litre to the offices of the Department of Petroleum Resources as it is the body in charge of monitoring and regulating such activities.
Most of the rumors of fuel price hike are carried by Nigerians who fear that as festive periods approach, things might actually get more difficult.however, authorities have frowned at this act.
